Units

Using the correct unit strategy for any given situation is the mark of a great commander. Read up on the different unit types and their strengths and weaknesses.

Infantry

The back bone of any army, the infantry is the least expensive unit in the game. Infantry units are weaker than other units, but are essential in some roles. Infantry is relatively strong against Artillery.

Tanks

Tanks are an essential part of any army and packs a heavy punch, it's the most expensive unit in the game and are best against Infantry units.

Artillery

Death from above! Artillery gives an essential strategic advantage. The artillery is a medium priced unit. Artillery excels versus Tanks.

Ships

Armies moved into sea regions are automatically transferred to ships. Ships can move in the same manner as armies, but in a battle at sea, the types of units in a ship do not matter. Take care when transporting expensive tanks and artillery.

Battles

How to battle on different surfaces and during different pre-conditions, know when to attack and when to hold your ground.

Land battle

In a regular land battle army size is the predominant factor of who will be the victor. But units also have different strengths and weaknesses. Your units will attack where they do most damage to the enemy.

Sea battle

Controlling the sea is vital for any empire and can effectively turn the tides of war. Sea battles are fought between ships, the units in the ships do not matter. Take extra care when transporting expensive units. Read more about ships and how they work here.

Border battle

If two opposing armies are ordered to move into each other's regions, they will first meet in a battle on the border of the two regions. The winner then continues into his target region. Note that he might encounter a new army there and have to fight another battle.

Attacking from sea

When you move from sea to land so that the move ends in a battle with a unit on land, your units will be at a disadvantage. Try to find an undefended beachhead to avoid unnecessary losses.

Funds

The funds box shows how much you have to buy new units and strategies. Funds are gained from regions you control. The income from regions can vary greatly, so plan your invasions with care.

Defense bonus

Different regions are more or less suitable to defend. This is represented by a defense bonus given to an army who started his turn in that region. The defense bonus can be seen in the region viewer.

Income

Getting an income advantage is crucial to winning a scenario. Carefully inspect neighboring regions to get the most funds from your battles. Generally regions with production centers have a high income, but not always.

Splitting armies

To move units in an army into more than one region, click a selected army again. The army icon changes into the split army icon. When you drag a split army, the army transfer popup lets you choose which units to move. Click the units to the right to order them to move into the new region. Ships cannot be split, but they can be merged by moving into the same region.

Cards

Strategy cards are vital for your success as a commander, they are temporary or permanent effects that can be played on regions or armies. But they are a gamble, since you get a random strategy with each purchase. Used at the right moment they can be a lot greater return on the investment than new units.

Air raid

Perform an air raid on any enemy or neutral region to weaken their defences prior to attacking.

Mass production

Increase funds gained from target region.

Paratroopers

Drop paratrooper infantry on any region causing a battle or reinforcing your position.

Bunkers

Infantry stationed in target region has increased defense.
